Briar Heights
Briar Heights is the clearest expression of Black Briar’s new wealth: a hillside collection of modern estates, restored manor houses and aggressively tasteful architecture overlooking the district and the distant tree line.
A neighborhood with its own stories, loyalties, and peculiar definition of normal.
Visitor information →Black Briar is Grimmstone’s district of new money, old wilderness, ambitious magic, hunters, gated estates, luxury development and inherited land. Its Hex Hustlers treat magic as craft, leverage and opportunity; its older residents know that a clean property deed does not guarantee a clean history.
Archivist’s note: Visitors are advised to distinguish a real estate opportunity from a territorial warning. The signs are occasionally identical.

The Lodge predates Black Briar's fashionable estates. It began as scattered hunters sharing maps, ammunition, folklore, and warnings about things coming out of the woods. Professional standards followed after too many amateurs died—or killed things that should have been left alone. Today it is Grimmstone's recognized Hunter guild, balancing contracts, public safety, monster ecology, and increasingly ugly la
The Hex Hustlers grew from local witches, dropouts, petty criminals, occult kids, and young people priced out of neighborhoods becoming fashionable around them. They turned practical magic into street economy: charms, curse removal, dubious potions, enchanted bootlegs, spell components, and favors. Their swagger hides genuine occult talent—and occasional catastrophic ignorance.
The Hawthornes made their fortune buying cheap land nobody wanted, then transforming it into upscale Black Briar property. They present themselves as proof the district can become Grimmstone's prosperous future. Critics note that fires, disappearances, rezoning decisions, and sudden monster scares often precede their acquisitions.
The Patch Boys began as families avoiding taxes, permits, and anyone telling them what they could do on their own land. Smuggling, moonshine, poaching, illegal repairs, and back-road courier work followed naturally. Their silly name is deliberate: outsiders underestimate them exactly once.
Affluent residents wanted the romance of monster hunting without apprenticeships, cold camps, or being told no. The Club turned dangerous hunts into exclusive sport. Some members became excellent hunters; others remain wealthy liabilities. Their money buys access the Black Briar Lodge considers deeply irresponsible.
