Some cities never sleep. This one never quite wakes up.
It is always somewhere between midnight and 5:25 a.m. The rain keeps its own counsel. The clocks rarely agree. And somebody, somewhere, is late for work.
Grimmstone is a supernatural-noir city of old streets, impossible histories, crowded markets, late-night performances, and people making a living under strange skies. Humans share its neighborhoods with vampires, goblins, revenants, ghosts, and other residents. Not everyone is hunting a monster. Most are simply trying to get through the night.
Here, an ordinary errand might lead to something unusual. Something unusual might become terribly wrong. But a good mystery still leaves footprints, witnesses, and choices worth making.
A friendly warning from the laboratory: street maps are helpful. Trusting every clock is not.
Eight districts · Eight ways to live after midnight
Choose a neighborhood
Every district has its own economy, communities, routines, and reputation. None is only what the rumors say.
01 · Working streets
Gaslight District
Older homes, familiar businesses, and neighbors who know which steps creak. People worry about repairs, rent, family, and what has been prowling the alleys.
Contracts, money, contested territory, and reputations carry weight. Behind the negotiations are cooks, mechanics, clerks, and everyone who keeps the district functioning.
Affluent developments stand beside established communities near the wilderness. Construction, property disputes, and questions of belonging share the streets.
Cabarets, stages, hospitality, and nightlife give this district its glitter. Performers, cleaners, bookkeepers, and patrons all have a part in the show.
Cemeteries, memorials, funerary work, and family traditions shape the neighborhood. Its people tend to grief, inheritance, and the ordinary work of remembering.
Independent merchants, repair shops, crowded stalls, and unusual goods. Every purchase has a price, and some objects arrive with a history of their own.
Factories, rail yards, warehouses, and worker neighborhoods keep the city moving. Shifts change, machinery breaks, and families build lives around the work.
Not simply a wilderness of terrors: this region also holds farms, cabins, settlements, and hunters. Travel, supplies, and the distance between neighbors matter here.
Shops open, trains run, theaters rehearse, and workers finish their shifts. The city has bills to pay and bread to bake.
Private life
Families share meals, friends fall out, neighbors lend a hand, and people dream about tomorrow—even when tomorrow is a complicated idea.
Hidden life
Secret obligations, illicit deals, and strange disturbances thread through ordinary routines. The supernatural is part of the city, not its only story.
Before a place becomes an adventure, it is somewhere somebody lives or works.
Unsolved, on purpose
Some questions have no official answer
Why does Grimmstone exist? Why do honest records disagree about its past? What, precisely, does 5:25 a.m. mean? The city offers clues, contradictory accounts, and more than a few confident theories—but no single definitive explanation.
Its larger mysteries remain open. The lives of the people caught inside them are anything but abstract.

These records are intended for readers and curious travelers. The laboratory has deliberately withheld private Game Master revelations. This decision was reached after the previous archivist was found stapled to a confidential filing cabinet.
