Welcome to Velvet Quarter

Music spills into the street; cabarets and clubs rely on performers, technicians, servers, and patrons.

Eight places to begin

Places worth finding

These are selected from the district location reference, with private campaign material withheld.

VEL-01

The Crimson Tear

The Crimson Tear is one of Grimmstone’s defining nightclubs: an intimate cabaret of dark velvet, candlelight, polished wood and crimson glass owned by Madam Lysandra Noctear. People come for music, drinks, conversation and the possibility of feeling, for a few hours, more alive than they did outside.

VEL-02

The Peacock Lounge

The Peacock Lounge is brighter and more flamboyant than the Crimson Tear: jewel-toned booths, mirrored walls, live bands and an enormous illuminated peacock behind the stage.

VEL-03

The Velvet Veil

The Velvet Veil is a respected adult performance venue built around burlesque, dance, drag, erotic theater and elaborate stagecraft. It is sensual without being predatory and famous for strict performer protections.

VEL-04

The Grand Nocturne Theatre

The Grand Nocturne is the Quarter’s great traditional theater: gilded balconies, red curtains, painted ceilings and nearly a thousand seats.

VEL-05

The Marquee Hotel

The Marquee is the Quarter’s busiest upscale hotel, favored by touring musicians, actors, business travelers and visitors who want nightlife downstairs and a good mattress upstairs.

VEL-06

Encore!

Encore! is a bright, noisy diner serving the Quarter’s workers after performances end. Costumes, stage makeup and kitchen uniforms are common sights in the booths.

VEL-07

Red Curtain Costumes

Red Curtain supplies theaters, clubs, parties and ordinary residents with costumes, wigs, makeup, prosthetics and custom tailoring.

VEL-08

The Blue Note Basement

The Blue Note Basement is a low-ceilinged jazz club beneath a record shop, famous among musicians rather than tourists.

VEL-F01

The Noctear Court

The 'Court' was never formally founded. It accumulated around Madam Lysandra Noctear as The Crimson Tear became neutral ground for artists, monsters, lovers, criminals, and people who needed one night where their name did not define them. Regulars began calling the orbit a court; Lysandra tolerates the term because trying to stop it only made it more fashionable.

VEL-F02

The Velvet Veil Society

The Society grew from affluent patrons seeking discretion, companionship, art, and carefully curated experiences. Over time it became a network where introductions are currency and exclusion can ruin a social season. It survives because it sells what money alone cannot guarantee: access.

VEL-F03

The Painted Faces

The Painted Faces formed after performers discovered club owners could exploit individuals but struggled against a united bill. Singers, dancers, actors, drag performers, comedians, musicians, and stage crews pooled contacts, emergency funds, and blacklists. Their colorful public identity hides serious labor discipline.

VEL-F04

The Red Lace Family

The Red Lace Family turned vice into a family business generations ago. Unlike Sixth Circle's formal criminal institutions, Red Lace thrives on nightlife's human vulnerabilities: debt, desire, addiction, loneliness, and reputation. They remain because they own businesses people genuinely enjoy alongside operations people genuinely fear.

VEL-F05

The Heartbreakers

The Heartbreakers began as pickpockets and romance scammers targeting careless visitors. Their best members became specialists in reading loneliness and selling whatever fantasy the mark wanted. They are thieves, but they also have strict internal rules against coercive magic and predatory violence—partly ethics, partly professional pride.
